Photo vault questions, answered

What is PureVault?

PureVault is a private photo vault for iPhone. It gives selected photos and videos a separate, encrypted place on your device, protected by an app passcode and optional Face ID or Touch ID. Titles, notes, albums, and tags help you organize your collection.

Where are my private photos stored?

Imported vault content is stored locally in PureVault’s app container on your iPhone. PureVault does not upload your library to a cloud vault or offer automatic cloud sync. Your content can leave the app when you explicitly choose to export or share it.

How does the vault protect my photos?

PureVault encrypts vault content using AES-GCM. Encryption keys are kept in the device’s Keychain. You choose an app passcode and can enable Face ID or Touch ID after setup. Encryption and app-passcode protection are included in the free version, not an extra security benefit of paying.

Can I use Face ID or Touch ID?

Yes, on compatible devices. Set your PureVault app passcode first, then enable the available biometric option for quicker access. Biometric unlocking is optional; the app passcode remains part of the vault’s access controls.

Is PureVault free, and what is the limit?

PureVault is free to download and use with up to 10 imported vault items. Photos and videos share that count; it is not a separate allowance of 10 for each type. Local encryption and the app lock are already included. The optional one-time purchase removes the app’s import-count limit.

What does the one-time purchase unlock?

The purchase removes the app import-count limit and unlocks PDF import and switching between list and gallery views. It does not add cloud storage, increase your iPhone’s capacity, or make encryption stronger. Your available device storage still limits how much you can keep. There is no subscription; Apple shows the current local price before payment.

Can I store videos and PDFs as well as photos?

Yes. PureVault supports photos and videos, and the one-time upgrade unlocks PDF import. Imported items are kept in the local encrypted vault. Photos and videos on the free plan use the same 10-item allowance.

Does importing a photo hide or delete the original?

No. Import creates a separate vault copy. An original that remains in Apple Photos is still visible there; importing it does not automatically hide or delete it. Check that your vault copy was imported successfully before choosing any separate original-deletion action.

Do I need to create a PureVault account?

No PureVault account is required for the local vault. You use your own app passcode rather than a remote login. An Apple Account is used for App Store purchases and restoring a previous purchase.

Can I use PureVault without cloud storage?

Yes. Vault storage, encryption, and management of imported content are local, with no cloud library required. Purchases, purchase restoration, and entitlement verification use Apple and RevenueCat and can require an internet connection. The app may perform purchase checks when it starts or returns to the foreground.

Does anything connect to a server?

Your vault photos, notes, passcode, and encryption keys are not sent to the developer or RevenueCat. Apple handles payment, and RevenueCat processes purchase history and an app purchase identifier for validation, restoration, fraud prevention, and purchase analytics. This purchase processing is separate from your local vault content. Read the privacy policy.

How do I restore a previous purchase?

Use Restore Purchases in PureVault’s settings while signed in with the Apple Account that made the purchase. Restoring verifies the paid entitlement; it is not a new purchase and does not restore deleted vault photos. If access is not recognized, contact support with your app version and device details.

Can I export my vault or move it to another device?

PureVault supports explicit export and encrypted .purevault transfer files. Importing an encrypted transfer requires the original vault passcode and its transfer code. A recovery-folder export is a separate, decrypted export, so choose and store it carefully. PureVault does not automatically synchronize the vault between devices.

What happens to my photos if I delete the app?

Removing the app removes its local app container, subject to normal iOS behavior. Export content you want to keep before uninstalling. A purchase restoration restores paid access, not the contents of a deleted local vault. Originals that you kept in Apple Photos are separate from the vault copy.
